Just finshed replacing the fork seals and found some errors in the factory manual. they reference tool 09940-34592 AttG as the tool to remove the inner dampener assembly. It will not fit down the fork tube, the substitute tool probably will not work either as it is a tapered four sided device like an easy out. So the way to do it is get a long 8mm allen wrench on a socket drive and using and air wrench remove the retaining screw while holding the top part of the fork up against the dampener. Worked on both, I was able to drive the new seal in the ring that goes around the collets on my automotive power steering pump/altenator pulley puller. I used a brass hammer so did not damage it for its intented use in the future. Replaced the brake pads (just in time 14k mi+) and put on a stainless steel covered hose and flushed the brake fluid out. As soon as I get the lights wired on the hard bags, I'll be ready to ride this spring. Have to do the 15Kmiles service soon but have most of the items checked off in the process of the other work I did this winter. Wheel bearings are OK, rear brake shoes OK, need to check the valve lash and change the plug and decide whether or not to mess with the intermittent leaky plug over the head nut. Weather has been warm but windy and I have my MIL's 88 Sable in the shop replacing the head gaskets and whatever else that has been overlooked in the last few years. Sure would rather twist wrenches on a bike than work on tired FWD cars with the engine compartment items in layers. But that how life goes. Hope it is getting to be like spring where you live. Max
